Why Shouldn't Mental Health Have a Checkup Too?

A Texas practice is encouraging people to think about mental health the same way they think about annual physicals—by checking in before small concerns become larger ones.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas — Landry Therapy Group is introducing a new approach to mental wellness with its Mental Health Checkup, encouraging Texans to think about emotional well-being the same way they think about physical health: something worth checking in on once in a while, not just when something feels wrong.

The practice has introduced a Mental Health Checkup, designed as a once-in-a-while conversation with a licensed mental health professional to give Texans an opportunity to explore their emotional well-being, stress, relationships, communication, and recurring life patterns—even if ongoing therapy isn't the goal.

Encouraging

Texans to Think About Mental Health

Before a Crisis Occurs

The idea is simple:

Once in a while, it may be worth checking in with yourself.

Sometimes, everything really is fine.

Sometimes, a person may discover that the stress they've been brushing aside, the relationship problem they keep circling, or an experience they thought they had moved past is affecting them more than they realized.

And sometimes, the therapist and client may decide that a few additional appointments could be helpful in working through a specific concern, life event, or past experience.

"We're not trying to convince everyone they need years of therapy," said Tiffany Brown, Client Care & Practice Operations at Landry Therapy Group. "Sometimes you just need a few conversations with someone who knows what questions to ask and can offer tools to help. You may walk in thinking one thing is bothering you and realize there's something else underneath it. That's worth knowing."

Unlike many large national platforms, Landry Therapy Group has intentionally remained a Texas-focused practice, built around a team of committed clinicians who are encouraged to maintain healthy work-life balance so they can be fully present for the people they serve. The practice believes that supporting clinicians ultimately leads to better care for clients, contributing to low clinician turnover and strong client satisfaction.

The Mental Health Checkup reflects a broader philosophy that preventive mental healthcare deserves the same attention as preventive physical healthcare. Rather than waiting until life feels unmanageable, Landry Therapy Group hopes more people will view caring for their mental health as a normal and proactive part of overall wellness.

"We routinely encourage people to take care of their physical health before there's a crisis," Brown said. "Mental health deserves that same opportunity."

Landry Therapy Group provides individual, couples, family, and child therapy throughout Texas through both virtual and in-person appointments. The practice recently introduced a personalized Find My Therapist matching tool to help individuals connect with the clinician who best fits their needs, preferences, insurance, and scheduling availability.
